Parking SW17

Most of the roads around SW17 are controlled parking, and either parking suspensions or dispensations are required. For larger Removals in SW17 a parking suspension is a necessity. The suspension has to be booked up to 14 working days in advance of the required date. These are booked with your local council online. For smaller SW17 removals, using vans, we can load and unload for short periods on single yellow lines. Otherwise a dispensation would need to be booked, if we are packing and SW17 flat moving.

A Little Bit About SW17

The SW postcode district was originally created as part of the London Postal District in 1857. In 1868 some of the areas of the abolished S district were added. The postal district of SW17 covers Tooting and parts of Mitcham. The local authorities covering these areas are Wandsworth and Merton.

Tooting is just one stop from Balham and it is fast seeing the same gentrification of its Northern Line neighbour. Bustling and eclectic with attractive period architecture and fast transport links, Tooting is split into three main areas – busy, multicultural Tooting Broadway, the quieter and generally more desirable Tooting Bec, and the family dominated Furzedown with its good schools.

The toponym “Mitcham” is Old English in origin and believed to mean big settlement. Before the Romans and Saxons were present, there was a Celtic settlement in the area, with evidence of a hill fort in the Pollards Hill area. The Saxon graveyard, located on the North bank of the Wandle is the largest discovered to date, and many of the finds are on display in the British Museum. The area is a possible location for the Battle of Merton, 871, in which King Ethelred of Wessex was either mortally wounded or killed outright.
