Parking W14

Most of the roads around W14 are controlled parking, and either parking suspensions or dispensations are required. For larger Removals in W14 a parking suspension is a necessity. The suspension has to be booked up to 14 working days in advance of the required date. These are booked with your local council online. A Little Bit About W14

The W postcode area is a group of postcode districts covering part of central and part of west London. The postal district of W14 covers West Kensington, Kensington Olympia and Holland Park. The local authorities covering these areas are Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea.

West Kensington is primarily a residential area consisting mainly of Victorian terraced houses, many of which are subdivided into flats. There are excellent examples of Victorian architecture, with several houses and some entire streets listed – including the imposing mansion blocks of Fitzgeorge Avenue (off North End Road) and the mansion blocks around Avonmore Road including, Glyn Mansions (Built 1897), Avonmore Mansions and Avonmore Gardens (Built 1893) which is located next to the new Kensington Village development. West Kensington Court was purpose built and completed in 1938 with a view of providing what was considered at the time luxury flats for young professionals and families wishing to get away from the older style properties. A more recent private development, St Paul’s Court, was built in 1980 on the former site of St Paul’s School.

Olympia’s story began in May 1884. John Whitley had created the National Agricultural Hall Company with the aim of building and operating the countries largest covered show centre. The National Agricultural Hall soon changed its name to Olympia in keeping with its ideals and objectives. Olympia exhibition and conference centre opened in 1886.

Holland House is now a fragmentary ruin, having been devastated by incendiary bombing in 1940, but the ruins and the grounds were bought by London County Council in 1952. Today the remains of the house form a backdrop for the open air Holland Park Theatre, which is the home of Opera Holland Park. The green-roofed Commonwealth Institute lies to the south.
