Parking W4

Most of the roads around W4 are controlled parking, and either parking suspensions or dispensations are required. For larger Removals in W4 a parking suspension is a necessity. The suspension has to be booked up to 14 working days in advance of the required date. These are booked with your local council online. A Little Bit About W4

The W postcode area is a group of postcode districts covering part of central and part of west London. The postal district of W4 covers Chiswick, Gunnersbury, Turnham Green, Acton Green and Bedford Park. The local authorities covering these areas are Hounslow, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham.

Whilst the beautiful riverside scenery is perhaps its biggest draw, Chiswick has many other attractions: great stretches of green land; historic houses; leafy avenues filled with handsome Edwardian and Victorian homes; easy road and rail links in and out of London; and a lively, boulevard-style High Road whose tree-lined pavements offer all the important contemporary shopping options as well as a thriving restaurant, bar and café culture with outdoor tables.

The name “Gunnersbury” means “Manor house of a woman called Gunnhildr”, and is from an old Scandinavian personal name + Middle English -bury, manor or manor house. Gunylda, the niece of King Canute lived there until her banishment from England in 1044. The manor owned by the Bishop of London, was occupied by the Frowyk family in the 15th century.

Turnham Green was originally a village on the main road between London and the west. It was recorded as ‘Turneham’ in 1235 and ‘Turnhamgrene’ in 1369. On 13 November 1642, the Battle of Turnham Green was fought near here during the First English Civil War resulting in the Parliamentarians blocking the King’s advance on London.
