A Little Bit About Kingston

Kingston is situated within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames; a title it earned in Saxon times “cyning and tun” meaning “the King’s manor”. It was the ancient market town where Saxon kings were crowned. In the 20th century it became known as a major military aircraft manufacture centre.

Located in postcodes KT1 and KT2 Kingston sits in the London borough of Kingston Upon-Thames and is outside the borders of the County of Surrey.

Widely distinguished schools and colleges are a major incentive for families moving to Kingston. Kingston is renowned for excellent primary education, provided by 34 schools (infant and junior), of which 14 are church schools, ten are secondary schools and 14 are private schools. Burlington Grammar, Tiffin Grammar, Tiffin Girls’ School and Kingston Grammar are just a few schools that attract families into the area.

Due to the redevelopment of the University it has now become a university town. The centre of Kingston has a wide range of shops with the Bentalls Centre containing the Bentalls department store. There is also a large John Lewis branch with a Waitrose in the basement.

Kingston railway station is served by South West trains, with great links to London Waterloo, Clapham and Richmond.
