Parking in Paddington

Most of the roads around Paddington are controlled parking, and either parking suspensions or dispensations are required. For larger Removals in Paddington a parking suspension is a necessity. The suspension has to be booked 10 working days in advance of the required date. These are booked with Westminster council online. For smaller Paddington removals, using vans, we can load and unload for short periods on single yellow lines. Otherwise a dispensation would need to be booked, if we are packing and Paddington flat moving.

A Little Bit About Paddington

The earliest extant reference to Paddington was made in 1056. In the later Elizabethan and early Stuart era, the rectory and associated estate houses were occupied by the Small (or Smale) family.

In the 18th century Paddington was famous for its gardens when The Count and Countess de Vandes established notable gardens at Bayswater and the Hon Charles Greville, founder of the Royal Horticultural Society, lived in Paddington Green.

One of Britain’s greatest engineers and a small bear from Peru are Paddington’s best-loved characters. Isambard Kingdom Brunel designed the station in 1847 and both are celebrated with statues on Paddington station.

It was at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington that Sir Alexander Fleming discovered the anti-bacterial properties of penicillium notatum later known as penicillin. He discovered a mould had killed some bacteria on a dirty petri dish on his return from holiday. Also Princes William and Harry were both born there.

Located in London post code W2 Paddington has great transport links to the west including Slough, Reading and Oxford. It also offers high-quality flats over shops, offices and restaurants. The old canal basin is now lined with dramatic new buildings, including the headquarters of major corporations including Marks & Spencer and Orange.
