A Little Bit About Westbourne Grove
Westbourne Grove takes its name from Westbourne Green – a settlement that developed that later took the name River Westbourne.
Westbourne Green was one of the parish’s earliest settlements. It was obliterated by mid 19th-century building, much of which consisted of streets with the prefix Westbourne and was sometimes known as Westbournia.
Westbourne is one of London’s most cosmopolitan areas with a very diverse local population: in addition to the ancestral Britons, there is a significant Arab population towards Edgware Road, a large Greek community attracted by London’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral, many Americans and London’s main Brazilian community.
Located in postcode W2 and W11, Westbourne Grove is a retail road running across Notting Hill from Kensington Park Road in the west to Queensway in the east, crossing over Portobello Road. It was noted as “fashionable” and “up-and-coming” from the 1990s since when it has attracted many designer label outlets as well as independent and chain retailers.
