A Little Bit About Knightsbridge

The name Knightsbridge came from the reference to the crossing of the River Westbourne that was known as Knight’s Bridge, which is now an underground river.

Knightsbridge was originally a small hamlet or locality outside the City of London, between the villages of Chelsea (Chelsey), Kensington (Kensing town) and Charing. In the time of Edward I, the manor of Knightsbridge appertained to the abbey of Westminster.

Home of the infamous Harrods department store, it located to Knightsbridge in 1849.
Up until 1916 Harrods sold pure cocaine to the public. Kits including cocaine and the equipment needed to inject it were available from the pharmacy to send to loved ones fighting at the front or sometimes for home use.

Knightsbridge today is a truly international destination, with beautiful surroundings and English heritage. As well as the historical significance of the area including the Royal Albert Hall and new developments such as One Hyde Park give Knightsbridge a global dimension.

Situated in postcodes SW1X, SW3, SW7 and in the London Borough of Westminster, Knightsbridge is a vibrant part of London with shops, restaurants and Hyde Park among its many assets.

Some of the established schools in the area include Imperial College Early Years Education, Centre Hill House School, More House School, Gems Hampshire School and Duff Miller College.
